DIY Valentine Wall Art

Welp, we’ve almost made it through January, which means we are that much closer to Spring!! (I still haven’t taken down my tree, but that is a whole {n}other story)

For me, Valentines Day is like a little happy heart that gets us through the let down after the holidays and the sometimes blah (and currently Arctic like) winter months. I am a bit of a romantic. Although I don’t go crazy decorating, I like to add a little Valentine-y touch& some color!

This is a fun easy & inexpensive little DIY.  It has a ton of different possibilities and you could even get your kids involved.  You will need…

//a picture frame with glass
(mine is a $2 garage sale find)

//burlap or solid fabric of your choice

//a variety of washi or other decorative tape

//x-acto knife

//heart stencil (optional)

To start, I took my vintage frame & basically framed the burlap in underneath the glass.*I have had so much fun with this frame by writing quotes & words on the glass with a sharpie. You can see my original post HERE.*
Next I gathered my washi tapes and lined up strips horizontally down the center. You could definitely measure out the strips as well as the center of your frame, but I just eyeballed where I wanted them. I layered and overlapped some pieces to give it a sort of patchwork look.  Wonderful washi tape is so forgiving and easily removable…just play around until you get a look you love.

I then cut out the heart with my X-acto knife.  I cut mine freehand, but this is where you could use your stencil or even cookie cutter like I did with my Valentine decor last year. Make sure your tool is sharp and just move slowly.  You make have to hold down the tape in some areas as you move along, but my tape did cut very easily.

And there you have it!  Simple, inexpensive and pretty sweet if you ask me.

This could work for any holiday or season by simply using different tapes and shapes…endless possibilities.  Have fun!

…I am going to go take down my tree now. ;) xo Krista

Hi, I'm Krista. Wife, momma, & daydreamer. I love to create & I have always been inspired by what I see around me, trying to look at things in a different way and imagining how I would tweak things to bring out the hidden beauty. I am excited by possibilities & giving new life to something old or discarded. I prefer painting thrift store treasures to folding laundry, & being in my craft studio over being in my kitchen. I recently opened a shop, Rustik Chic, where I create handmade one of kind cuffs from vintage belts, buttons, jewelry, ribbon, & lace.
