A Slice of Heaven: Nook & Sea

Today I’m so excited to introduce one Kristina from Nook & Sea to you. Her serene blog, filled with beautiful pictures of Southern California living and home decor ideas, keep me inspired and motivated to keep plugging along decorating my little piece of heaven….my home. In fact, I may need to enlist her to help me find ways to decorate my space.

Meet Kristina from Nook & Sea:

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your blog.

I started the blog as a personal outlet. My husband and I had just moved to the beach area and I was inspired to practice creativity in everyday life. I had just begun a new job in administration that was an answer to prayer, but certainly not along the lines of my dream career path. I felt that to have the best of both worlds, a blog was the ideal side project which I could nurture, perfect and develop into something really special someday.

What inspires you to blog?

Many things! Just being part of the blogging community is inspiring. You come across so many talented women and it’s neat to see how each one uses their online platform to express their voice. My husband and family are also wonderful encouragers. It’s awesome to have that support system. They definitely want to see me succeed in something I love.

I know you love to blog about styling your home, can you give us some advice on how to find your own decorating style?
I’m still struggling with this one myself! As a newlywed, you have the unique challenge of identifying not only your personal style, but your spouse’s style as well. Ultimately, finding your decorating style takes time, and if you’re like me, your tastes will continuously evolve. To make sure my home doesn’t end up as a hodge-podge of “stuff”, I’m very intentional in what I buy. Currently, I’m influenced by design that is fresh and timeless while maintaining a punch of color/personality in things like photos, greenery and accessories. It’s much easier to replace a few pillows than toss out the trendy chevron couch you may not like in 10 years. If you don’t love it 100% – go without it!

What is one of your most favorite home decor projects you’ve done? Can you share the link with us?

Being a renter, my projects around the house are more limited than I’d like, but I’m so glad I updated the dining room. One day I just got fed up with looking at it and attacked it with a paint roller! It’s definitely made the past 6 months more enjoyable, especially when we’ve entertained company!

Where is your favorite place in your home to sit and blog?

While the weather’s been a bit of a bummer here on the coast, I’m excited to soon take advantage of the sunshine and write out on our back patio. We got really lucky with our unit – it can house a substantial table and is on the top floor with lots of light. It even has a peek-a-boo view of the ocean, which isn’t so bad either! ;)

And just for fun – what’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?

I’m a sucker for french vanilla! It’s ironic because it’s not exactly reflective of my spunky personality, but it’s so good and you can practically pair anything with it!
